Rewarding Participants

Do I have to offer rewards to participants through FindingFive?

Not necessarily! FindingFive leaves the decision of offering participation rewards entirely up to researchers, though there are some considerations to keep in mind.

If you are recruiting participants from third-party platforms, those platforms may have their own rules about compensation. FindingFive simply provides the platform for participation (not recruitment) and does not enforce any specific reward policies in these cases.

If you are running an Institutional Pool session with your own students, you have complete flexibility in how you reward participants. You can offer cash compensation, course credit, or no reward at all.

However, if you are recruiting from FindingFive's in-house participant pool, a cash reward is required. Since these participants come from the general public, they expect financial compensation for their time.

How much should I reward participants?

If you are offering a cash reward, we encourage you to set a rate that meets or exceeds the minimum wage in your local jurisdiction. Ultimately, the exact amount is up to you.

Can I award bonuses to participants?

Yes! You can award bonuses using the Manage Participants feature on the Session Dashboard. Simply locate the participant, click the three-dot menu, and choose the option to award a bonus if available. Bonuses are generally only available to participants who have completed your study.

Can I refuse a reward to a participant?

No, you cannot withhold a reward based on the quality of a participant's responses. Even if you decide to exclude their data from your analysis, they will still receive the reward. Rewards are processed automatically, and you do not need to approve them.

If you choose to terminate a study early, participants who have already completed the experiment or are in progress and eventually finish will still receive their reward. However, participants who have not yet started the experiment at the time of termination will not be eligible for a reward.
